Winter is coming. Unlike scenes from Game Of Thrones, it’s not the undead ice-army that zaps our enthusiasm for working out, it’s the cold weather.  With little or no equipment, these indoor workouts can be done  at home or at your office desk. All you need is your own body weight. If you do have equipment like dumbbells or elastic bands, you can increase your workout by ten. If you would like to maintain your workout schedule with some quick, indoor exercises, read on.

Here Are 7 Winter Workouts You Can Do Indoors

Cleaning – tidying up around the house is hard work, especially if you have you’re caring for a loved one. Guess what, it counts as a form of working out. So If you spend time at home and happen to be looking for a workout but are worried about time, you can kill two birds with one stone. From vacuuming to mopping, cleaning can be very physical. You’re getting your cardio, burning calories. A nice clean house is also a great plus. Nice job.

Lunges can be done two ways— stepping in place or by stepping forward back and forth in a hallway. This activity works out muscle in your legs improving balance and gait.

High-Knees – Unlike running in place (which is also good), high-knees levels-up your workout to get your heart pumping like a walk or a jog would. Alternatively, you can walk up and down your stairs if you have any. Remember to hold on to the rails for balance if you need to.

Dumbbells – you can use these in the comfort of your living room. Combining them with squats makes for a super workout that targets your quadriceps (quads), the large muscle in front of your thighs.

Pushups are great for upper-body conditioning that you can do indoors. The action uses muscles in your chest, front of your shoulders and back of your arms. Done regularly, push ups will strengthen, tone and build these major muscles. It does also strengthen your core muscles (muscles around your midsection) which can improve your posture too.
Stretching is awesome! It’s not a form of exercise per-se, but it does wonders for your body. Though some more research is still being done benefits include improving athletic performance in some activities and decreasing the risk of activity-based injuries.

For a complete workout, there are few things to consider. You do not have to do all of them to get a good workout, but I stress having balance in your workout plan. What this means is that you want to focus on your arms and legs, chest and shoulders with some form of resistance training. While you’re at it you want to focus on your abdominal area as well as lower and upper back movement.
